God’s Love Is Always a Win

Glorious and majestic are his deeds

and his righteousness endures forever.

He has caused his wonders to be remembered;

The LORD is gracious and compassionate…

He provided redemption for his people

Psalm 111: 2,3,9

Imagine a crowd cheering as they watch their favorite team win the game. It’s a small taste of what God fills our heart with as he reveals to us who he is. His deeds cover the pages of the Bible as we see him part the Red Sea and as we watch him guiding and protecting his people in the desert, in slavery, in prison, and in the fiery furnace. We see a God who keeps his promise to deliver us by sending the Son of God as a baby—fully God and fully man—to rescue us from something much bigger than health problems or financial trouble. Jesus came to rescue us from hell. He suffered God’s punishment for every one of our selfish acts and thoughts and gave us his perfection in their place. Three days later, his empty tomb proclaimed his victory over sin and death for us (talk about the roar of a crowd after a touchdown!)

God knows the struggles of every person. He knows what keeps us awake at night and what makes us feel fearful, ashamed or alone. His heart is stirred with compassion as he reminds us to remember his love…one that we could never earn or deserve. He is doing that right now—every time we listen to him in his Word, every time his Spirit reminds us of his forgiveness.

Below are some discussion topics to become more deliberate in giving your children reminders of God’s love for them.

  • What Bible stories remind them of God’s love for them?

  • What reminders of the love of Jesus do you see and hear in church?

  • Read John 3:16 together as a family, then talk about what it means that Jesus loved you so much he died and rose for you.

  • Discuss as a family how we can remind each other of God’s love (e.g., conversation, visual reminders, songs that remind us of the love of Jesus that we can listen to).

  • Talk to God together as a family about what his love in Jesus for you means. Tell him about situations that concern and trouble you.
