Ideas For Embracing His Word With Your Family This Summer and Every Season

From infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures,

which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.

All scripture is God breathed

and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness.

2 Timothy 3: 15-17

Timothy grew up learning the scriptures from his mom and grandmother. His dad was not a spiritual leader in their family (real life, just like today). Paul mentored the young man Timothy and reminded him in this letter that because he knew scripture from infancy, God had worked through that word to give him faith in Jesus as his Savior.

The next verse makes two points about God’s Word:

  1. God breathed: It is God’s Words, not man’s words.

  2. And it’s useful. God doesn’t want his Word to just be knowledge. He intends for us to live from the truth of his grace for us. When we know the love that God has for us—that is beyond our thoughts—it changes us.

As many families have more time together this summer, it is a good opportunity to take what God tells us about his Word to heart and share his grace and truth in the good and bad days that are to come.

Use these prompts as thought-starters for how you can be together in the Word this summer:

What concerns do I have about my children?

What joys are they experiencing? Challenges?

What Bible scenes and verses would give them the assurance that Jesus is with them in these situations?

What are the goals we have for being in the Word this summer?

What resources does our church and other Christians offer?
