Show Your Children Peace With God's Greatest Gift
A house fly ended up in my burning candle. It took me a while to get its many body parts out with a toothpick. My annoyance turned to wonder as I imagined the Creator knitting together every tiny part of this little fly….from generation to generation….to fly and function. I got spiritual in my thinking as I watched my hands fish out the fly….the nerve control to take a toothpick and pull out tiny legs was another work of our Creator. I looked out at the sunset, the stars in the night that are galaxies beyond our counting, all made with a word from God. I thought of the skilled carpenter that is repairing our kitchen, the doctors and nurses that served my husband last year when his heart seemed to have failed…the garbage men that faithfully pick up our trash every week…all gifts from our Heavenly Father.
But all those gifts are small compared to that tiny baby in the manger that first Christmas Day. God’s Son and yet fully human. The Father of heavenly lights sent the Light of the World, his son Jesus, who took the judgment of hell we deserved. He was judged in our place to give us the gift of life with him forever in heaven.
The gift of Jesus as our Savior is a changeless promise God first gave in the Garden of Eden when the first sin was committed. In the chaos of change we experience daily, our peace is from the changeless love and promises of God.
A Daily Prayer:
O Jesus, release me of all the ways I try to deal with and control the changes in my life that are scary and hard. Give me trust in your promises that you are with me and have saved me. Fill my heart with eager anticipation of the gifts in Heaven, filled with the Light of the Lamb! Amen.
