What God Wants Us To Know When We Are Anxious

I love all the ways our culture prepares our children for the new school year: meet the teacher; get familiar with the new classroom; load up on new school supplies, clothes, and shoes. But even that careful preparation doesn’t alleviate the stress of starting something new. This verse gives families a filter for facing the many changes of going back to school.

Cast all your anxiety on him

because he cares for you.

1 Peter 5:7

God tells us to cast (throw, toss off) all that makes us anxious onto him. That sounds easier than it is. Every part of me wants to control situations that take me by surprise, and many others are the same way.

But the One who made every cell and every moment and every galaxy tells parents and children something awe-inspiring:

Cast all your anxiety on him

BECAUSE HE CARES FOR YOU.

Because

God

cares

for

you!

God gives us this truth to share, pray about, and remind our children.

Use Jesus’ words as a family conversation starter:

“Therefore, I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?

Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?

Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?”

Matthew 6: 25-27

Set aside time to read and talk about these verses.

  • What does Jesus say to help you not worry?

  • What does it mean that you are much more valuable to God than the birds?

  • What are examples of God caring for you?

  • What is the ultimate thing Jesus did to care for us?

For God, so loved the world, that he gave his only son,

that whoever believes in him will not perish

but have eternal life. John 3:16

Tell Jesus about what worries you. Taell him what it means to you that he cares for you.
