Being Safe In God's Love Through Baptism

For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. Galatians 3:27

The next few blogs will discuss the logo for the You Are More series. In the first book David, Liam, and Katherine wear a cape along with a crown and armor. The cape represents the pure white dress or robe of righteousness that God describes throughout the Bible. This white clothing is the truth that Jesus covers our sin by his forgiveness. God describes being clothed in Christ in the book of Revelation:

Then one of the elders asked me,

“These in white robes—who are they, and where did they come from?”

I answered, “Sir, you know.”

And he said, “These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.” Revelation 7:13-14

I think it is very comforting that God acknowledges that life on this side of heaven is a great tribulation. In the mess of our sin and the sin of those around us, we have the objective truth that we are holy and blameless in God’s eyes. In fact, he says we are beautiful to him:

I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. Revelation 21:2

It is painful to see shame on a child’s face. The truth that in Baptism, we are covered in the robe of God’s perfection or righteousness means that we are safe in his love—safe enough to honestly acknowledge our own sins to each other and safe enough to tell each other that we are forgiven.

In Baptism, God assures us we are his and clothes us in the saving work of his son, Jesus.
