God’s Gift Of Grace And Truth For Every Family

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.

We have seen his glory,

the glory of the One and only,

full of grace and truth.

John 1:14

The Word that spoke all creation into existence became flesh like us. Jesus, who is our life, made a way for us (with all our selfish failures) to be with the Holy God. He became like us to die in our place and saved us so he can live with us now and forever.

His truth is not just for the religious but for all people—every family, parent, and child.

When our children see a nativity scene or a picture of baby Jesus, they see their Savior as a baby, a child like them.

When they understand the humility of God’s Son to enter this world—which they already understand is not perfect because they know pain, fear, shame, and selfishness—they can see God’s glory and his love for them.

When we show them the cross, and tell them why he came, they can see his glory and his love for them.

God wants them to know him. He gives them faith through his Word we share with them, and through baptism, to know that Jesus is their Savior.

The greatest gift we can give our children is to share God’s Words with them.

  1. Tell them how Jesus came and why. Read Luke 2, the account of Jesus’ birth, together as a family. Talk about what it must have been like that first Christmas.

  2. Comfort them with the truth that Jesus is with them right now.

  3. Teach them that he is coming again to take us home with him forever where there is no more pain, death, sorrow, or sin.

A Daily Prayer:
Oh, Jesus, Thank you for giving us life with you now and forever. Give us a passion to lead our children to know you by teaching them your Words in the Bible. Give us time and wisdom to see their needs—emotionally, spiritually, and physically—and point them to the One who rescues them forever. Give us faith in you to make their souls, not their comfort, our priority. Amen.
