How God's Word Teaches Us to Replace Fear with Action

Blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it. Luke 11:28

One of the scariest times in recent memory was when we were driving to take our oldest to college for the semester in a caravan of two cars…through a severe storm…in the night…in Kansas…with our three almost grown up “kids” in one car, and the hubster and I in the other.  We literally could not see the road. There were no lights on the side of the highway and no place to stop. We were vulnerable to say the least.

I started saying the Lord’s Prayer over and over again. To say the very words Jesus taught us helped me to replace my worry with an action that held my heart in the truth that God was with us and heard us.

This verse from Luke means a lot to me because I know that the Words of God that enter my thoughts when I am afraid or disappointed or angry. They are God’s truths, not my perceptions.

One of the best ways to protect the word of God is to memorize it. Memorizing scripture is a way for us to think about each word in the Bible verse.

There is no greater activity that you can do as a family than to memorize scripture together. Think of all the conversation starters a Bible verse can give your family as you learn each word, together. The gift from God for our families is that his word is protection for our souls against all the heinous assaults Satan throws at us.

Nothing can take God’s love from us. Nothing can take his Spirit working through his words away from us.

Guard it.

Protect it.

Memorize it.

Meditate on it.

Daily Prayer:
O Jesus, Replace the time in our family that we fret about the small things of this world with a deliberate determination to keep your word in our hearts. Amen.
