What Jesus Means by Obey Your Parents

Children obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. - Ephesians 6:1

My child, God is talking to you in this verse. He knows it can be hard to obey your parents., but he wants you to know that when you obey them, you are obeying him.

God also wants you to know that you are in him. You are held by your Savior and Father, Jesus. He loves you. He was little once too. Jesus knows what it is like to be a kid.  He was tempted to not obey his parents, but he always obeyed them so that he could forgive you for all the times you do not obey your parents.

You are in Jesus. He is in you. You are always with him. He wants you to talk to him when it is really hard to obey. And he wants you to talk to your parents in a respectful way when you have trouble obeying.

Jesus wants you to obey, not because your parents deserve to be obeyed, but because Jesus loves you. Obey because it is a way to love Jesus and to love your parents.

Listen to Jesus in his Word. Ask your parents to read you the promises and Bible stories that comfort them. Ask them to help you obey by telling you about Jesus’s love for you and teaching you about him in the Bible. Ask them to take you to church and Sunday school. And pray for your parents. They are children to Jesus also.

O dear child, nothing can take you from God’s love. Nothing.

Daily Prayer:
Dear Jesus, hold us in your Father arms till we are safe with you in heaven. Amen.
