God Holds Us With Promises
For I am the LORD your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you. Isaiah 41:13
When I read these words, they calm my worries. I can just feel God taking my (adult but at the same time child) hand in his powerful God hand as he says: Do not fear, I will help you. I know when God tells me that that he means it. God doesn’t break his promises. He has kept every single one of them.
When I feel afraid or alone or guilty the Spirit will remind me of a promise like I am with you always or you are holy and blameless in my sight. I find lists of God’s promises online that make it easy to find a promise of God for different situations. I also have made a list of promises that I have learned in a sermon or Bible study that mean a lot to me. The list helps me remember them for myself and for a friend who is hurting or stressed.
Even little kids are calmed by the divine truth of what God says. Sometimes just singing a familiar song like “Jesus loves me” is sanctuary to a child’s soul. God’s promises can also be great conversation starters as we talk with our children about what they mean to us and how they apply to our unique situation.
A Daily Prayer:
Dear Jesus, we are so grateful that we can depend on what you say. Help us find ways to share your promises with each other today. Amen.
