God Knows When Parenting is Hard
You have searched me, LORD, and you know me…you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on tongue you, LORD, know it completely. Psalm 139:1,3-4
I painted a bathroom with my daughter in law yesterday and I quickly learned that one drip of paint can multiply quickly. That’s how I remember times in our family when one of us was dealing with a hard situation. When one person was stressed out by something, it wouldn’t take long for all of us to feel it.
Parenting can be hard. There were days when instead of handling a loud toddler meltdown or tight finances in a godly way, I just became part of the problem - like another drop of paint that multiplied into even more messes. I don’t know how many times I started the day with the intention of perfectly loving my kids and the hubster and by the end of the day felt like a failure.
Psalm 139 has become a friend to me. God knows the days when it is so hard to parent. He knows our hearts that long to do his will but don’t. And he tells us he loves us; he forgives us and he never leaves us. That is power for those days when parenting can make us feel so isolated.
God's perfect love for families gives us stability and joy in sharing life together, even in the hard days.
Daily Prayer:
O God, you know us and yet you love us. Thank you for that grace that we do not deserve. Thank you for giving us the gift of our children and perfectly loving them. Amen.
