How to Teach My Child About God

The unfolding of your word gives light; it gives understanding to the simple. Psalm 119:130

It is amazing to watch the world through the eyes of a little child. Their open hearts take in every detail of a crawling insect or the face of someone holding them. Their sincere thirst to understand the details of life are like the simple hearts that God says take in his Words.

Our children also absorb the Words of God by the power of the Spirit. Point out how God protects us as you read Jesus calming the storm to them. Teach them how God uses ordinary people for his purpose as you read David and Goliath. Explain the blessings of obeying God’s commands. Share with them the forgiveness we have in Jesus as they read the parable of the waiting Father. The Spirit gives us understanding of who God is and who we are as we listen to him.

O God, pour your spirit into our hearts to listen to the divine revelations of love you have for us in your Word. Amen.
