How Vast is God's Love?

And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge – that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Ephesians 3:17b-19 

Galaxies, made up of universes, blow my mind. In our own universe, we struggle to try to launch someone in a rocket to Mars. Scientists cannot see the end of space and they cannot even understand it. It is a small picture of what God is telling us about our understanding of his love in this section from Ephesians.

We need his power just to grasp the immensity of his love. We know it by his Spirit and yet it surpasses knowledge. God’s love is who he is, so that knowing it is knowing him. We are filled to the measure of the fullness of God! Just those words: “being filled to the measure of the fullness of God” are like endless galaxies of love to my human mind.

We grasp his love and at the same time live in a world that is reeling from the power of fear and hate. But God’s endless love in and for us shines from our words and actions. It attracts those who feel alone and afraid. His Words of love give life to those who do not yet know him.

A Daily Prayer:
Dear Jesus, give me trust to rest in the vastness of your love for me. Give families sanctuary in the immensity of your grace in these last days. Use us to bring many people to faith in your saving love. Amen.
