Restore Your Child-Like Faith

I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a child will never enter it. Luke 18:16

I was talking with my granddaughter the other day and noticed a colorful male painted bunting on the bird feeder. I was all excited and tried to show it to her as we video chatted. She was so excited about it and ran to her Dad and said: “Daddy, Daddy! Grandma has a painted bunny in her yard!” Cuteness overload!!!

I love how trusting kids are of us. This intelligent six-year-old was ready to accept the fact that there was an actual painted bunny in my yard just because Grandma said there was. It reminds me of what Jesus said in this verse when parents were bringing their little children to him to be blessed. God sees children’s beautiful, unquestioning faith in his Words. It is good for our kids to know that Jesus sees their trust in him and it makes him happy. It is even something he holds up as an example to adults.

It gives kids a deep sense of intimacy with Jesus to know he affirms their faith in him. Children don’t have the adult experiences of going through hard times and seeing how God was there for them. Yet they have such a trusting faith in what God tells them in the Bible.

In these weird virus days, it is so comforting for families to know that we don’t have to think everything through and have all the answers. We can truly be like a little child at peace as our Father kisses us with his Word: Rest in my love for you my dear child.

A Daily Prayer:
O Jesus, help us to have faith like our little children have in you. Give us ways today to tell them how Jesus sees their faith every day. Amen.
